Julian cut ‘Absolutely Anything’ with Terry Jones starring Simon Pegg and Kate Beckinsale and featuring the voice talents of the Python team, together with Robin Williams, sadly in his final role.
Past films include 'The Walker' for Paul Schrader (writer 'Taxi Driver', 'Raging Bull', director 'American Gigolo', 'Comfort of Strangers'), and 'The Secret of Moonacre' directed by Gabor Csupo.
In October 2013 ‘Believe’ (aka “Theatre of Dreams’) starring Brian Cox and Natascha McElhone won the Golden Eye Audience Award at the Zurich Film Festival.
Julian Rodd started in the cutting room as an Assistant Editor with directors as diverse as Nic Roeg, Peter Greenaway & Ridley Scott. Finding his feet as an Associate Editor on 'A Brief History of Time' with Errol Morris which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 1992, he went on to cut Kate Bush's 'The Line, The Cross & The Curve' which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Video. He also worked as a Sound Editor with Mike Leigh and Hugh Hudson and garnered a Golden Reel nomination for his work on Jean-Jacques Annaud's 'Seven Years In Tibet'.
Julian graduated to editing a wide variety of documentaries, from the gritty 'A Company of Soldiers', about soldiers' lives in South Baghdad, (directed by Tom Roberts for WGBH PBS' Frontline in the States and the BBC's Storyville strand in the UK), to drama documentaries such as the final episode of the three part 'Dunkirk'; an episode of the first 'Who Do You Think You Are' series which continues to be commissioned to this day, music documentaries such as 'John Adams: American Classic' and two of the popular Howard Goodall Channel 4 music series, all of which have been nominated for awards. In 2011 Julian edited the pilot for the 2014 TV BAFTA feature winner ‘Long Lost Family’. He was part of the multi Emmy nominated 2013 cable series ‘The Bible’.
This combined experience has enabled Julian to have an effective eye on a broad range of projects and this has been put to good use on a number of consulting projects. Particularly rewarding was the editing journey on the film ‘Theeb’ which was recognised with an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language film.
